Trip to Coffs Harbour with Scuba Shack

Well those who came along to The North Solitary Islands will have to agree that it was a great trip, and diving was fantastic! We saw some great marine life including Turtles, Spanish Dancers, Grey Nurse Sharks, Grouper, Wobbi, Nudies, lots of Anemone Fish, schools and schools of Surgeon Fish & Reef Banner Fish.

After the 6 hour drive up, we were in 4 different accommodations. 5 in the Dive Lodge, 7 others hired a house, 2 stayed with Friends and the other 2 hit the caravan park. So 16 of us landed on Mullaway ready and eager for the weekends diving.

Friday night was mellow, we unpacked and the 7 of us staying in the house were in bed and snoring by 9am. When we woke the howling winds had eased a little and we were excited to hear that we could get to North West Solitary to dive Manta Reef and maybe the E gutters.

We loaded up into 2 boats and away we went to the beach to help launch the boats. The ride was a little rough but when we got into the water we had a beautiful dive seeing lots of Spanish Dancer, Wobbies and lovely hard and soft corals along what is known as Manta Reef.

Our boats second dive was not as successful with 5 of us taking an incorrect turn and ending up where the first dive was. 2 of us however managed to complete the dive and remarked that it was awesome.

On Saturday evening an invitation went out to all travelers to join us at the house for a BBQ. 16 of us sat, ate, laughed and chatted out the back and watched the display of Lee chasing Dave with the hose. This was entertaining to say the least.

The next morning the weather had turned it on for us and a spectacular morning meant that we could get to North Solitary and dive Anemone Bay and Elbow reef. My 2 favourite sites.

Elbow reef was amazing with the 2 sink holes and lots of marine life. Anemone Bay was another spectacular dive with 1000’s of Anemone Fish, Grey Nurse Sharks, Schools of Surgeon Fish and Banner Fish.

I would like to thank everyone for a fantastic trip.
